Overview
The role of the Matron in the Emergency Department is to provide highly visible leadership, managerial and professional support on a day-to-day basis to all nursing staff and to ensure the smooth running of the department to achieve the emergency access target.
Core responsibilities include:
* Provide clinical nursing managerial expertise in all aspects of the specialty, ensuring the highest possible standard of nursing care and technical equipment care while efficiently utilizing resources.
* Develop and maintain the department’s philosophy of care based on the Trust’s mission statement, core objectives, and the nursing, midwifery and healthcare assistant strategy.
* Support a safe and well‑being focused environment that addresses infection prevention and control priorities.
* Collaborate with local GPs, charities, community services, academic partners, local authority, neighbouring hospitals and the wider North West London Integrated Care System to advance patient care and hospital initiatives.
* Contribute to the construction of the new Hillingdon Hospital and support the Trust’s vision of being an outstanding provider of healthcare.

About the Trust
The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon, offering a wide range of services, including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and maternity services. Mount Vernon Hospital is part of the Trust and provides routine day surgery, a minor injuries unit, and outpatient clinics.
