An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Ophthalmology outpatients service at Denmark Hill, King's College Hospital. We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with people and have an interest in working in an ophthalmic care setting.

This role requires excellent people skills and communication skills, and strict attention to detail in order to provide imaging of the highest quality. This rewarding position will develop and evolve with our collaborative team working approach to ensure we meet the advancing demand of patients with ocular conditions.

Previous experience of working with patients in an eye care setting would be beneficial.

Post holder must be able to work across a 7 day week, including bank holidays. Shift pattern ( non negotiable due to service requirements) : 8am - 6pm, including one Saturday and one Sunday shift per roster month.

Please note : This vacancy is for fixed term contract which will end on 31/08/2026

Main duties of the job

Demonstrating caring, compassionate, professional behaviour fostering trust and confidence in the service for people in your care.

Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and members of the Multidisciplinary network of professionals regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills.

To undertake ophthalmic technician duties including (but not limited to) :

1. Visual acuity assessment
2. visual field assessment
3. Retinal imaging using various retinal imaging devices including OPTOS, OCT imaging, Anterion etc
4. Measurement of spectacles using the automated focimeter
5. Measurement of Intraocular pressure using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyser and iCARE
6. To participate in the virtual technician led clinic.
7. To use electronic patient record management system.
8. To assist in intravitreal injections and cross linking services.
9. To undertake administrative tasks associated with the role, following departmental guidelines and procedures.
10. To contribute to the efficient running of all clinics, opening and closing of clinic setting.
11. To be able to complete successful care certificate completion within 3 months of start date.
12. To ensure safe use and maintenance of all equipment
13. To commit to further training as required
14. To demonstrate ophthalmic technician duties to others and to assist in training new staff when necessary
15. To participate in team huddles and meetings
16. To ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the Trust
