A unique opportunity has arisen in the Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal) Operating Department due to service expansion and development.
Work in support and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN)/Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) providing perioperative care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the RN/ODP.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records.
* Contribute to the on‑call service.
* Assist in a variety of surgical specialties, including orthopaedic joint surgery, general surgery, breast, urology and ophthalmology.
* Support the theatre team during the upgrade of the theatres.
* Ensure patient individual care needs are met in a safe, effective and efficient environment.

The department is committed to appraisal, continuous education and professional development.
We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – and several community health care premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI provide general hospital services with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and consultant‑led services. WGH offers a range of general hospital services plus an Urgent Treatment Centre for non‑life‑threatening conditions, day‑case and inpatient surgery.
All three main hospitals provide planned care such as outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day‑case and inpatient surgery, along with local outreach services and diagnostics across Morecambe Bay.
