Job overview

The post holder will be required to work as part of a team providing a booking service to the cardiology department. This requires close liaison with consultants, patients, medical and nursing staff, physiologists and managers.

Main duties of the job

This is a multi-skilled and busy role with frequent requirements for concentration, where the work pattern can be unpredictable with regular interruptions. Handling of complex and sensitive information and the need for confidentiality is integral to the post. The post holder will require a working knowledge of IT systems, in addition to knowledge specific to cardiology. The role will include booking patients for out-patient clinics, diagnostic tests and handling GP, BHT clinician and patient queries. The post holder will be expected to work without direct supervision and will be expected to liaise and communicate as appropriate.

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

10. GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English language

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

11. Experience of working within the NHS in a similar setting
12. Experience of booking appointments
13. Experience of working in an environment dealing with Highly confidential data

Desirable criteria

14. Experience of and understanding of waiting list management

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria

15. Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to enable liaison with multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers
16. Able to give 100% attention to detail when scheduling of appointments to prevent breaches of waiting list targets
17. Aware of confidentiality code of practice in relation to staff and patients
18. Ensure punctuality and reliability of self to ensure good relationship within the team

19. Happy to work as part of a team
20. Able to work under pressure and deal with conflict situations to an amicable conclusion
21. Good communication skills at all levels and across a range of individuals including clinical staff and patients
22. Knowledge of Trust systems

24. Willing to travel between the 3 hospital sites within the trust
