Overview
We are looking for a Nuclear Medicine Radiographer or Technologist who shares our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. The Nuclear Medicine Department at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre provides diagnostic imaging investigations together with molecular radiotherapies and operates a radiopharmacy supplying radiopharmaceuticals to other nuclear medicine departments.
Responsibilities
* Participate in the delivery of the clinical nuclear medicine service, undertaking administration of radiopharmaceuticals for imaging, in-vitro studies and therapy.
* Promote and maintain high standards of patient care at all times.
* Apply knowledge of radiation protection measures and precautions following diagnostic procedures; communicate these clearly and sensitively to patients.
* Use experience to participate in service improvement programmes with clinical scientists and other healthcare professionals.
* After completion of a comprehensive in-house training program in good manufacturing practice, be involved in all aspects of radiopharmaceutical manufacture and dispensing in the radiopharmacy.
Qualifications and Training
* BSc Radiography with a post-graduate qualification in Nuclear Medicine (or equivalent level of knowledge and experience) and evidence of working in nuclear medicine; or Degree in Healthcare Science / Nuclear Medicine Technology or related discipline.
* Evidence of current CPD activity.
* HCPC registration for Radiographers or Register of Clinical Technologists for Clinical Technologists.
* Experience in SPECT/CT, PET/CT and/or CT imaging is essential.
* Training in cannulation / administration of intravenous injections.
* Desirable: PgD/MSc in Nuclear Medicine; training in radiopharmacy; evidence of interest in or attendance at M Level courses.
Experience
* Specialised training and practical experience in diagnostic Nuclear Medicine investigations.
* Experience of Radiation Protection and ability to advise patients and staff.
* Some teaching / training / mentoring experience; experience in SPECT/CT imaging; (Desirable: experience in Nuclear Medicine therapy procedures).
Skills
* Excellent numeracy and ability to perform calculations related to radioactive decay, concentrations, volumes and other dose-related calculations.
* High level of physical accuracy and manual dexterity for radiopharmaceutical dispensing and injections.
* Good organisational and communication skills; ability to work as part of a team and to educate others.
* Ability to analyse and interpret complex data; proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Clinical Applications software; ability to teach and supervise students and staff.
* Ability to apply knowledge of practical nuclear medicine and radiation protection to implement new procedures; contribute to department development.
