DEPARTMENT: BBC Nations, BBC Disclosure/Long Form Journalism team (BBC Scotland)
LOCATION: Glasgow, Pacific Quay
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Band C: £27,600 - £34,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join the award‑winning BBC Disclosure team and work at the forefront of BBC Scotland’s investigations and Long Form Journalism output. As an Assistant Producer you’ll play a key role in developing and delivering investigative content for TV, iPlayer, our new podcast strand and more. Please note, this is a 10‑month role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Find, develop and pitch investigative story ideas for TV, radio and online, demonstrating innovation, a desire to tell untold stories, and a passion for original journalism that appeals to our diverse audience.
* Identify and select stories primarily for the Disclosure strand, demonstrating strong journalistic skills and editorial judgement, good legal knowledge and sensitivity to the dilemmas involved and the people affected.
* Drive films in terms of visual style and structure, encouraging innovation while working within BBC editorial guidelines.
* Lead or help on the creative and journalistic process as part of a team of producer/directors delivering compelling content from complex material, including shooting some elements and working across wider News and short‑form output produced by the BBC.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Ability to originate and develop investigative stories.
* Effective communication with the Long Form Journalism team and confident discussion with contributors to persuade them to share their stories.
* Experience of self‑shooting for long‑form projects.
* Understanding of the goals and objectives of the Disclosure programme and ability to communicate these to others.
* Knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and media law including privacy, defamation, contempt of court etc. and how these relate to investigative programme making.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
* Experience working within a team setting in a fast‑paced environment.
* Knowledge or practical experience of video and audio editing.
* Strong understanding of long‑form podcast output and storytelling techniques.
* Evidence of successfully taking ownership of a piece of journalism.
