About the role
Climate change is the biggest challenge facing our generation. The transition to clean energy is critical to helping us achieve the goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. As National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of the energy transition in the UK, we have a big part to play in supporting the delivery of a decarbonised energy system.
As Lead Development Engineer, you’ll identify and drive new and complex opportunities for NGET growth, utilising your technical expertise to convert them into tangible products and services, to take us further towards Net Zero.
You’ll deliver and execute prototype and ‘first-time’ solutions working with the Net Zero Engineering team and the NGET business.
Carrying out specialist solution design and lead engineering activities that convert existing, new and complex opportunities into prototype innovative and ‘first time’ engineering solutions that can be adopted, you’ll develop models that provide engineering solution insights comparing proposed or modelled scenarios.
We’re flexible on where you’re based and support hybrid working however there will be a requirement for you to travel to our offices in Warwick 1-2 days per week.
What you'll need
You’ll be an experienced engineer with the ability to develop engineering solutions to real life scenarios and Net Zero challenges. Experience building models which give insights into long-term strategies is key and you’ll also have a STEM degree and experience of the electrical or utilities industry. Knowledge of how the electricity transmission industry works and one or more programming languages would be an advantage.
You’ll have experience of managing solution focused teams within a matrixed organisation and you’ll also have strong stakeholder management, analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
In addition, creativity, motivation, attention to detail and organisation skills are also key.
