Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist to join the mental health team at HMP Gartree, a Category B prison located in Market Harborough, Leicestershire. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver psychiatric support to adult male inmates, primarily aged 28–50, many with complex mental health and trauma needs.
Job Summary
Full‑time equivalent of 20 hours per week, with flexible rosters across 2–2.5 days or a rolling rota (2 days one week, 3 days the next). Additional sessions may be offered at HMP Stocken or HMP Five Wells for those seeking full time.
Salary
Annual salary up to £186,480 per annum, FTE, dependent on experience.
Responsibilities
* Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the case load onsite.
* Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision.
* Work within the multidisciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments and engage in multi‑professional complex case reviews.
* Deliver non‑judgemental care, ensuring safety, quality and patient‑centred outcomes while meeting CQC requirements.
* Inspire excellence in colleagues, promote best practice and continuous quality improvement, and share knowledge and skills with clinical and non‑clinical staff.
Qualifications
* Registered professional with current GMC registration.
* Specialist registration in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
* Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Understanding of the complexities of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorders.
* Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
Legal and Vetting
Candidates must have a legal right to work in the UK and will undergo additional vetting and security checks. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
UK Registration
Applicants must have current UK professional registration (GMC) and specialist registration in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
