Overview
Building Maintenance Assistant role at Serco, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. Full-time, permanent position.
Working hours
08:00 – 16:00 (7.5 hours per day). 37.5 hours per week.
Salary
Up to £27,422.06 per annum depending on experience plus Serco benefits.
Role purpose
To provide safe and efficient maintenance of the Building Fabric and equipment within the hospital as directed by Estates Supervisors and management. To maintain the Hospital Building, Fabric, Plant, Services and Equipment to a high standard to ensure efficiency, safety and reliability and support long-term serviceability as contractually required.
Main accountabilities
* Carry out reactive repairs and maintenance to the Building Fabric and Structure within all areas of the Hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.
* Carry out certain Planned Preventive Maintenance.
* Work in accordance with Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines.
* Maintain a safe and responsible approach to safety for self and others.
* Attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
* Complete Work Orders accurately and promptly in the Labour Control System.
* Use personal communication equipment as requested.
* Be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Supervisors or Managers.
* Report unrepaired faults or defects and requirements for spare parts to Supervisors or Managers.
* Attend on-site and off-site training as required.
* Understand how the Maintenance Assistant role contributes to Serco’s Norfolk & Norwich Contract and wider company objectives.
What you’ll need to do the role
* Proven experience of working in a similar environment
* Knowledge and understanding of general Building Services
* Good communication and customer service skills
Physical and mental demands
Physical: Moving large or heavy objects using correct manual handling techniques and equipment; possibly walking long distances within the hospital; pushing trolleys; PPE use.
Mental: Sound working aptitude; ability to concentrate and work under pressure; may involve close proximity to hospital patients.
Working conditions
Potential exposure to unclean and potentially infectious materials (appropriate precautions to be taken); extremes of temperature; possible work in noisy environments; occasional work at height (in line with policy and Permit to Work).
