We are looking for a reliable and experienced self-employed bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial operations for our charity. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in the not-for-profit sector and be confident in streamlining and improving financial processes

Job Location:Some remote working is possible, but weekly visits to our office location in Milton Keynes is necessary (MK19).

Hours: Between 7-14 hours per week/Flexible (to be agreed)

Contract Type: Self-Employed

Overview.

The Maclellan Giving Together Foundation (MGTF) is a UK Christian charity connected to the longstanding international Maclellan Foundation, who describe their focus as: “establishing and strengthening the local church, promoting discipleship and leadership development, sparking community transformation, promoting the power of prayer, advocating for generosity, and increasing access to Scripture”.


Based in the UK, MGTF rolls out key global initiatives that focus on equipping local Christian ministries and releasing local resources to foster sustainable Kingdom growth. These include Learning Communities, retreats, collaborative giving evenings and other resources. This is a dynamic, high-impact role, ideal for someone who is highly organised, has excellent writing skills and is passionate about seeing the Kingdom flourish globally.

Key Responsibilities:

* Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with charity accounting principles (including SORP compliance where applicable).
* Process income, donations, grants, and expenditure across multiple funding streams.
* Manage payroll and pensions processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments and statutory compliance.
* Administer Gift Aid claims and ensure accurate donor records in line with HMRC requirements.
* Prepare regular financial reports, including management accounts and cash flow forecasts.
* Support the preparation of annual accounts for independent examination or audit.
* Reconcile bank accounts, grant income, and restricted/unrestricted funds.
* Coordinate and manage international payments, ensuring accurate processing and compliance with relevant regulations in the UK and recipient countries.
* Collaborate with the leadership team and/or treasurer to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making.
* Identify opportunities to automate and streamline financial processes, including integrations with donation platforms, payroll, and accounting software.
* Ensure compliance with HMRC, the Charity Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
* Support the development and documentation of internal financial controls and procedures.
* Carry out any other related activities as directed.

Occupational Requirement

The candidate must have an active Christian faith.

Because The Maclellan Giving Together Foundation supports the Christian sector, the nature of the work requires that this post holder has an active faith in Jesus under the Equality Act 2010, Part 1, Schedule 9.

Essential Skills and Experience

* Proven bookkeeping experience with the charity or not-for-profit sector
* Professional bookkeeping/accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, ICB)
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Good understanding of the UK charity regulatory framework (Charity Commission, HMRC, etc.)
* Experience preparing for audits or independent examinations
* Proficiency with QuickBooks accounting software
* Understanding of payroll, pensions, and Gift Aid processes
* Strong IT and spreadsheet skills (Excel/Google Sheets)
* Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders

Desirable:

* Experience managing multi-currency accounts and international transactions
* Familiarity with CRM/donation platforms (e.g., Beacon, Stewardship, Trustbridge)
* Experience supporting small or growing charities
