Reports to: C-Further Programme Lead
Directorate: Research & Innovation
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time 35 hours per week, open to flexible working patterns such as compressed hour
Location: Stratford, London – office‑based with high flexibility (1‑2 days per week in the office). This role includes international travel six times a year with trips of 5–6 days occasionally more.
Closing date: 31st October 2025 23:55 – this role will stay open until 2nd November internally, but may close earlier if sufficient applications are received.
Visa sponsorship: You must be eligible to work in the UK – Cancer Research UK is not able to offer visa sponsorship.

Recruitment process: 2‑stage competency‑based interviews


What will I be doing?

* Represent C‑Further at national and international events to promote visibility of the initiative and build a network of connections with leading players in childhood cancer research
* Lead C‑Further’s engagement with the childhood cancer research community and beyond, ensuring we are at the cutting edge of drug discovery activity in this space
* Act as a trusted point of contact for external innovators, guiding them through the translation and partnership process
* Proactively identify, evaluate, and source high‑potential therapeutic opportunities in childhood cancer from academia, clinical networks, charities, and industry
* Lead the Project Sourcing workstream strategy, in collaboration with C‑Further scientific leads and therapeutic discovery teams
* Support assessment of proposals, ensuring only the strongest opportunities progress into the C‑Further portfolio
* Work closely with colleagues across CRUK, LifeArc, and partner organisations to ensure effective handover and onward development of sourced projects


What are you looking for?

* Detailed knowledge of early drug discovery and the evaluation process (target selection, validation, technical feasibility, etc.) across multiple therapeutic modalities, preferably developed in a drug discovery environment
* A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, representing the initiative at high‑profile meetings and conferences, and engaging senior research stakeholders across academia, industry and charities
* Exceptional networking and relationship‑building skills – with previous experience of developing collaborations with academics and/or industry (academic institutions, biotech and pharmaceutical companies)
* Ability to develop and implement search and evaluation strategies that identify high‑potential research opportunities and align with translational and commercialisation pathways
* Strong understanding of the end‑to‑end therapeutic discovery and development process, including commercialisation routes and market considerations
* Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire in a matrix environment, providing direction to workstream contributors and collaborating effectively with colleagues across multiple organisations
* Able to think creatively, foster an entrepreneurial approach, and champion innovative ideas
* Ability to monitor and interpret strategic trends in paediatric oncology and related fields, identifying emerging opportunities or risks relevant to the search and evaluation strategy
