Overview

PDP Transport Development Planning Officer. Based at Victoria Gate in Woking. This is a Professional Development Programme (PDP) position in the Environment and Planning directorate. The position has a grade span ranging between PS7 - PS9 (33,552 - 45,135) with opportunities to progress through the range. The role is suitable for entry‑level candidates with a relevant degree or candidates with some experience in a related field.


Responsibilities

* Advise Local Planning Authorities on the transport impacts of development proposals in a diverse and varied region.
* Promote sustainable development, maintain and improve road safety, minimise traffic generation, and maximise the shift towards sustainable travel modes within transport and land use planning policy and guidance.
* Work within Surrey County Council as the Highway Authority, assessing the impact of development proposals on roads and transport networks and providing recommendations to Planning Authorities.
* Be part of a large team that supports personal development and progression through a structured Professional Development Programme to progress through pay grades.

About The Role

An exciting opportunity within the Transport Development Planning Team. As a Transport Development Planning Officer (PDP), you will advise on the transport impacts of development proposals, with a focus on sustainable travel, road safety, and policy considerations. Surrey County Council is the Highway Authority for roads in the county. The team evaluates the impact of development proposals on roads and transport networks, providing recommendations to improve and preserve the safety and sustainability of travel as new developments are delivered. The team reviews over 3,500 planning applications each year and supports career development through the PDP framework.

Personal development and progression are integral to the team and to Surrey County Council. The PDP is designed to kickstart a career in transport planning with a structured framework to learn and progress through the pay grades as experience grows.


Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application should clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

* Degree in a relevant subject (geography, town planning, civil engineering, transportation planning, or equivalent) OR equivalent transport planning experience
* Good written and verbal communication, and negotiation skills
* Proficiency in IT (including Word and Excel)
* You are a team player, flexible, adaptable, and able to work under pressure
* Interest and knowledge of relevant highway and planning technical matters

Surrey has both urban and rural areas; a valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is expected, with willingness to travel across a wide geographical area.
