Role and responsibilities You will be the backbone of the finance team who ensures accuracy, compliance and commercial clarity across the business. This is a hands-on senior role combining technical accounting, project accounting and leadership of day-to-day finance operations. Key responsibilities Prepare monthly management accounts and P&L reports with clear, actionable commentary for senior leadership. Lead month-end and year-end close and statutory reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Manage VAT and CIS returns and maintain HMRC compliance. Oversee purchase ledger, payments, bank reconciliations and payroll for employees and subcontractors. Produce project costing, WIP and profitability analysis to support commercial decision-making. Monitor cashflow and prepare working capital forecasts. Support budgeting, variance analysis and financial modelling. Coach and develop junior finance staff and drive improvements in systems, controls and automation. Partner with operations and commercial teams to translate financial data into practical business decisions. Candidate profile We are looking for a confident, technically strong accountant who combines precision with commercial judgement. Essential Qualified accountant or demonstrable equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years equivalent senior accounting experience. Strong experience in management accounts, VAT, payroll and project accounting. Excellent Excel skills, familiarity with accounting systems such as Sage and CRM systems. Clear communicator able to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders. High standards for accuracy, integrity and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. Desirable Experience in construction, renewables or project-based businesses.
