Job overview
The aim of this post is to support ongoing research in the interventional cardiology department focusing on regenerative medicine and interventional research, with a view to submitting an MD (Res)/PhD.
Barts Heart Centre is internationally renowned for cardiovascular research and the candidate will complete an MD (Res)/PhD through the affiliated Queen Mary University of London. The candidate will also partake in grant writing to secure additional funding. Previous fellows have also contributed review articles and book chapters, and have successfully submitted original scientific papers/abstracts and oral presentations. Further details of projects can be discussed in detail in person.
This role would suit a well organised person who has a desire to undertake a period of research training as part of their clinical training, ideally in the fields of cardiology or cardiac critical care. Some prior experience in research through an intercalated BSc or similar would be beneficial, as would experience / expertise in data management. Crucially the role requires an applicant who can communicate with a wide range of people and who can work independently.
The main responsibilities in addition to the MD (Res)/PhD is to support the cardiac intervention research activities.

The following opportunities exist:
a) Research fellow for studies in Myocardial infarction. The interventional department has extensive expertise in the latest intracoronary imaging, and interventional cardiology techniques. The successful applicant will have the opportunity of running a RCT study that will lead to a MD(Res)/PhD

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
b) Research Fellow for interventional Cardiology covering a wide portfolio of commercial and investigators lead studies including cardiac imaging (Cardiac CT), drugs and devices to improve outcomes in interventional cardiology (leading to completion of a higher degree).

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. The applicant must have achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC) and have current Full Registration with the GMC.
2. MRCP (or Equivalent)
Desirable criteria
3. Intercalated BSc or MSc
4. Good Clinical Practice training
5. Knowledge of general research techniques
6. Experience of statistical analyses.
