Job Description:
We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Primary Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and supportive team at a thriving primary school based in Surrey. The ideal candidate will be someone with a strong desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children with various learning needs and disabilities, enabling them to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
•Provide tailored support to children with a range of special educational needs, including those with ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities.
•Work closely with the classroom teacher to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and adapt learning materials to suit the needs of each child.
•Assist with the planning and preparation of activities, ensuring they are suitable for children with SEND.
•Encourage and assist children with their educational and social development, including supporting them with literacy, numeracy, and other key skills.
•Monitor and record the progress of children with SEND, providing feedback to the classroom teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
•Effectively manage classroom behaviour, using appropriate strategies to support positive behaviour and engagement.
•Assist with personal care needs of the students as required, while fostering their independence.
•Collaborate with other professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists as needed.
•Participate in training and professional development opportunities related to SEND.
•Engage with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of their child's progress and contributing to review meetings.
Qualifications and Skills:
•Previous experience working with primary-aged children with SEND, or a strong desire to work in this field.
•Relevant teaching assistant qualification, or willingness to undergo training.
•Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and experience implementing effective strategies to support children with SEND.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
•Patience, compassion, and resilience, with an enthusiastic approach to learning and development.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
•An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one.
