Graduate Highways Design Engineer The role of Graduate Highways Design Engineer will involve being part of a niche, technical and dynamic team of professionals. You will be appropriately qualified with a Degree in civil engineering. You will assist with the detailed design of, and tasks associated with, various highway works associated with retail, residential, employment and commercial developments. These projects range from concept stage through to design, technical approval and adoption under Sections 278 and 38 of the Highways Act and Section 104 of the Water Industry Act. Proven skills and experience on relevant software systems including AutoCAD, AutoTRACK, Keysign/Keypost, etc would be helpful but not essential. Key responsibilities of the role will include: - Attend site visits to gain an understanding of the site, identify any potential design risks or issues and note observations and evidence of any pertinent points. - Assist in the preparation of preliminary and detailed design of highway improvement and traffic management schemes to current design standards. Use and develop an understanding of AutoCad, 3D Civils, AutoTrack, KeySign/KeyPost and PDS. - Assist in the preparation of construction drawings for highway improvement and traffic management schemes. - Attendance at meetings (initially in an observational capacity) with Local Highway Authorities, Clients and members of the Design Team. - Assist in preparation of various technical reports, technical notes and visual condition surveys. - Liaise with Statutory Undertakers to obtain records and diversion quotes for relocating underground apparatus. Continued 01/01/2026 - Develop a basic understanding of all the tools and techniques employed within the field of highway engineering. - Undertake self-learning and keep up to date Continuing Professional Development records to keep abreast of the latest developments with respect to all the tools and techniques employed within the field of highway engineering. - Develop a full understanding of, ensure compliance with and assist in the upkeep and refinement of the company's Health & Safety Policy. - Develop the skills to be able to undertake work to the company and industry wide CAD Standards. - From time to time you may be required to support other sections of the business where needs dictate. - Any other tasks required by the Directors commensurate with normal duties
