The role
As a Senior Human Factors Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an opportunity to experience a broad diversity of work within Human Factors, enhancing your skills and knowledge to progress within Babcock.
Day to day you'll lead a small team who support engineers and other scientific disciplines operating in the high hazard nuclear regulated industry in:
1. The design development of new or modifications to existing site systems, processes and facilities;
2. Providing Human Factors input into the nuclear safety assessment process;
3. Supporting the successful implementation and validation of the human performance elements of the safety case within the operation business setting.
This role is full time, 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Senior Human Factors Engineer:
4. The application of human factors knowledge / understanding in support of engineering system / process design
5. A good understanding of nuclear safety assessment principles and safety case production
6. Knowledge in the principles underpinning training development in a structured manner
7. The ability to clearly understand engineering concepts and to communicate effectively with engineers and other scientific disciplines on human factors related matters.
8. Incident / event investigation
Qualifications of the Senior Human Factors Engineer:
9. Degree in Psychology plus MSc in Occupational Psychology, Applied Psychology or, Industrial Psychology
or
10. Ergonomics based discipline or an engineering degree with high psychological / ergonomics content (or equivalent).
11. Working towards Registered Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or as a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society with experience of working in the human factors field within high hazard industries.
The successful candidate will need to satisfy security requirements. This will require you to hold or be capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
