Job overview
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our expanding anaesthetic department. The post has an on-call responsibility for general anaesthetic and labour ward duties.
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is a split site NHS Trust which provides anaesthetic services at High Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals. The successful applicants will be expected to work at both sites.
The Anaesthetic Department provides anaesthesia services to support General Surgery, Emergency Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT and Maxillo-Facial, Ophthalmics, Trauma and Orthopaedics (including spinal orthopaedics), Burns and Plastic Surgery, anaesthesia for spinal injury patients, Breast, Urology, Paediatric, ECT and Interventional Radiology.
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will be expected to work at both Stoke Mandeville and High Wycombe hospitals to deliver Consultant level anaesthesia. This could include emergency, trauma, plastics trauma, ophthalmics, obstetrics, or anaesthesia for spinal injured patients on the SMH site, or anaesthesia for elective surgery, or pre-operative assessment on the Wycombe site for the specialties previously listed.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* MB, BS or equivalent
* FRCA or full equivalence
* CCT/CESR holder in Anaesthesia or Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthetics
* Or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
Experience
* General training in Anaesthesia to specialist level or equivalent (at least one year NHS experience)
* Ability to make decisions at Consultant level
* Evidence of completion of advanced training (or equivalent) in: Pre-op assessment / Peri-operative Medicine
* Evidence of completion of advanced training (or equivalent) in: Orthopaedics and/or regional anaesthesia
* Evidence of completion of advanced training (or equivalent) in: Obstetric Anaesthesia
* Extensive years' WTE
Skills, abilities and knowledge
* Evidence of good leadership skills
* Ability to organise a team and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of a Consultant
* Management training and experience
* Good personal and interpersonal skills
* Good spoken and written English. Good Communication skills
* Experience of teaching health care workers, doctors-in-training and undergraduates.
* Experience of clinical audit
* Evidence of good team working, ability to cooperate, persuade and negotiate within a senior clinical management team
