Introduction Surf Coast Shire is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified individuals to serve as an Independent Member of its Audit and Risk Committee (ARC). Description The ARC has been established under s53 of the Local Government Act 2020 and provides a structured, systematic oversight of Council’s financial reporting, risk management, internal controls, governance and internal/external audit. Skills And Experiences Selection Criteria Applicants should briefly address the following criteria: - Demonstrated experience in audit, finance, accounting, governance, and/or compliance. - Ability to review and interpret financial statements and assess organisational risks. - Understanding of corporate risk management practices, including treatments, mitigations, and controls. - Understanding of audit processes (internal and external) and oversight of audit recommendations. - Knowledge of Council operations and the local government environment. - High level of integrity, independence, and ethics, with sound judgement and professional conduct. - Experience on boards, committees, or senior advisory roles. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective participation in committee discussions. Remuneration The Committee meets five times per year and Independent Members are remunerated in accordance with the ARC Charter. Current remuneration for Independent Members is $735 per meeting, this is reviewed annually each September.
