Overview

We are open to receive applications from various disciplines and backgrounds including Nursing, OT, Social Care, Therapy, and/or those with experience working with children and young people in care. The service aims to support children in mental health crisis, prevent admission to hospital or enable timely discharge, and move them on to a settled placement. This is a multidisciplinary team with Health, Social Care and Psychiatry expertise, operating in Hertfordshire. Cherry Tree Cottage is an Ofsted registered children\'s home operated through an integrated health and social care staffing model to care for children looked after. The home provides 3 beds for children with mental health presentations who may be repeat attenders at A&E / S136 or at risk of / or have had admission to Tier 4 provision. The post is for a Band 6 clinician within this innovative service, working alongside social care colleagues in Cherry Tree Cottage.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will work with the Registered Manager, Team Leader, HPFT Clinical Lead, Consultant Psychiatrist, and other clinicians to plan, develop, provision and review an excellent, service-user focused service providing crisis containment and therapeutic support to children and young people with social and co-morbid mental health difficulties. The home applies the ARC framework (Attachment, Regulation and Competency) and Non-violent resistance ethos to create a warm, nurturing environment that enhances wellbeing. Training is provided and all workers are expected to operate within this framework. The post holder will work within professional guidelines under the supervision of a Team Leader alongside the Registered Manager.


Responsibilities

* Undertake mental health assessment, risk assessment, care plan management and reviews for children and young people with complex mental health and co-morbid social care needs.
* Undertake crisis containment work including therapeutically engaging activities for children and young people admitted to the home for a limited time.
* Provide advice and consultation to other team members regarding the mental health care of children and young people in the home.
* Maintain high standards of reparative parenting to safeguard and promote welfare, ensuring the home meets legal requirements and National Quality Standards for residential homes.
* Follow HPFT and HCC policies and local procedures.
* Support children and adolescents to develop socially, educationally and emotionally through effective assessment, care planning and liaison with other agencies.
* Understand and support the purpose of children\'s homes and respond appropriately to children with challenging behaviour.
* Contribute to day-to-day home activities (cooking, cleaning, school/run activities, appointments, petty cash, medication administration, maintaining the home environment) and be a good role model; work shifts to cover the needs of the children, including weekends, bank holidays and holidays as required.
* Provide a safe, containing environment to stabilise mental health crises and support return to original placements to enhance placement stability.
* Support running of therapeutic groups within the home for young people.
* Provide accurate, clear and concise communications in all aspects of service delivery; integrate into a multidisciplinary health and social care team within the residential unit.
* Oversee care team responsibilities and work with the team leader and manager to ensure clinical governance initiatives and service framework targets are met.
* Initiate and participate in service audits and promote service user feedback.


Experience and Qualifications

* Experience working with Children & Young People in a health environment; experience with CYP in a mental health crisis environment; and additional training through short courses.
* Desirable criteria: RNMH / RNLD / RMN / Registered Social Worker.
* Degree with postgraduate level study or equivalent experience (ENB 998 / Mentorship) and evidence of management or leadership development.
* Membership of professional bodies (NMC). They must have UK professional registration and, for candidates requiring a Skilled Worker visa, should review visa sponsorship criteria on GOV.UK.
