IT Support Apprentice – Wedge Group Galvanizing

Are you looking to kick-start your career in IT with hands-on experience in a dynamic and supportive environment? Wedge Group Galvanizing is offering an exciting IT Support Apprenticeship where you will gain valuable skills in IT support, system administration, and network management.

Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd is the UK’s largest hot-dip galvanizing organisation, with 14 sites nationwide. For over 150 years, they have provided essential corrosion protection for steel structures, from street furniture to major infrastructure projects like bridges and stadiums. A Typical Day in the Job:


User Support & Troubleshooting

* Provide a friendly and efficient first-line ICT support service.
* Respond to and resolve ICT issues logged via HaloITSM, aiming for first-time fixes where possible.
* Escalate issues to team members where required.
* Communicate clearly with internal users, managing expectations and providing timely updates.


Hardware & Software Management

* Assist in the setup, deployment, and maintenance of company devices, including Windows and iOS devices.
* Troubleshoot hardware faults and software issues across company systems.
* Support with the installation and configuration of software applications.


Network & System Administration Support

* Assist with network-related troubleshooting and connectivity issues.
* Learn to monitor and maintain ICT infrastructure, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
* Support security best practices, including user access management and endpoint protection.


Process Improvement & Documentation

* Maintain accurate records of ICT incidents and change requests within HaloITSM.
* Help develop and update ICT documentation, including troubleshooting guides and user manuals.
* Identify areas for service improvement and suggest new ways to enhance ICT processes.

Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the team at Baltic Apprenticeships.

Desired Qualities, Skills, and Knowledge:

* A strong interest in IT and a willingness to learn.
* Good problem-solving skills and logical thinking.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
* Attention to detail and a focus on accuracy.
* A proactive approach to learning and development.
* Basic knowledge of IT hardware and software.
* Interest in cybersecurity, networking, and automation (e.g., PowerShell).
* A Grade 5/C in GCSE English and a Grade 4/C in GCSE Maths is required for this role.

Salary, Hours & Benefits:

* Full-time, Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week with 7.5 hour working periods between 7am and 6pm.

Your Training with Baltic Apprenticeships

This Level 3 apprenticeship provides everything you need to immerse yourself in the exciting world of technology and launch a rewarding career in IT. You’ll get hands-on experience in all areas of technical support, from configuring devices to supporting software, optimising performance, and setting up virtual environments.

With real-time classes, self-paced learning, and expert trainer support, this programme will give you the confidence and qualifications to thrive in IT.
