We're looking for a Major Projects Team Lead to join our Design team based in Gerrards Cross / Speke. Kier Design is a top‑25 engineering consultancy delivering a wide range of services across all sectors of the built environment, providing construction‑focused, innovative and sustainable solutions. We have preferential access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline, including mega projects such as High Speed 2 and Hinkley Point C, frameworks with national and local government and other public bodies, and a range of interesting projects in every sector.

What you’ll be responsible for
As Major Projects Team Lead, you’ll work within the Mechanical, Electrical and Technology team, overseeing and coordinating MEP design for large, complex construction projects. You’ll act as the central point for technical excellence, team leadership, client liaison, and ensuring sustainable, compliant, and cost‑effective design delivery from concept through to construction, bridging client needs with engineering reality.
Your Day‑to‑Day
* Support the Head of Service in business management, working with Electrical and Mechanical Team Leaders to coordinate solutions for all allocated works, including major and minor new builds, refurbishments and minor works.
* Develop and maintain strategic client relationships, managing utilisation and achieving monthly/annual metrics for the teams within agreed targets.
* Deliver quality output and develop the team, managing utilisation, identifying and implementing steps to balance capabilities with workload, and setting standards for product delivery aligned to industry practices.
* Oversee designs and advice – feasibility, multi‑stage designs, condition reports – liaising with other Kier teams to coordinate delivery and maintain CPD programme for competence.
* Communicate effectively to management on output, progress, cost, and risks; participate in business development, supporting bid submissions, preparing presentation materials, attending interviews, client meetings, and driving new business opportunities.
What we’re looking for
* Chartered Engineer and member of CIBSE or IET, with a degree in Mechanical Building Services or Electrical Engineering, plus significant experience demonstrating capability to fulfil the role’s accountabilities.
* Experience managing and driving a multi‑discipline technical/engineering team with a proven track record of sustainable performance against challenging business targets.
* Strong communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to a broader business audience, with an understanding of quality procedures and document control in engineering design.
* Ability to pass BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) requirements.
