Job Description
Lifeguards at SV are responsible for:
* Communicate safety rules, regulations and recommendations with guests
* Keep supervision/manager informed of situations related to department operation and safety.
* Monitor and maintain order of guests waiting to ride or use rides/attractions, and check for and enforce all ride rules, restriction and recommendations.
* Monitor and ensure the safety of guests and other associates.
* Keep a close eye on swimmers on the many exciting water attractions.
* Calculate the proper dispatch intervals between riders.
* Observe and assist with loading and unloading of guests safely in and out of rides and attractions as needed.
* Monitor rides and attractions continuously for safety concerns and unusual noises, smells or visual concerns and communicate to appropriate personnel.
* Monitor and enforce company, divisional, department and lifeguard rules, regulations, policies and zones of protection, regardless of the team/area that you are assigned to.
* Keep ride patios and midways clean and looking great.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established policies, procedures and training.
Qualifications
To perform the role of a Lifeguard successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
* Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
* Must be able to work in a fast pace environment.
* Must be able to work in an environment with loud noises and where lighting is used to replicate various effects including: weather conditions, night, day, holidays and weekends
* Must be able to communicate via phone, whistle, radio and control panel.
* Must be able to read, write, communicate and follow safety instructions and procedures.
* The associate must also have the ability to learn and complete rescue skills in a working environment, whether that be on land or in the water, as well as learn spinal injury management, all while working in a team environment.
* Ability to write simple correspondence.
* Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
* Strong attention to detail, not easily distracted, commitment to safety and must react well in stressful and emergency situations.
* Friendly, outgoing and a positive attitude to make guests excited about their experience
* Ability to successfully complete and pass lifeguard training and meet the standards of Starguard Lifeguard Training Program.
* Must be comfortable in and around water for an entire shift.
* Must be able to distinguish hand signals at a distance of up to 50ft.
* Regularly required to ride the attraction to ensure show quality and proper working conditions.
* Able to make quick decisions, recognize, respond to, and extract an individual in distress.
* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
* Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
* Ability to pass a background check, if 17 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, and personal references, per company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
* Must be 15 years or older with excellent verbal communication skills
* Meet scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Lifeguard job.
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time, talk, have the ability to hear audible alarms, and voice commands with background noise, use of hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach, pull, push with hands and arms below head, repeating motions more than twice per minute.
* The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and up.
* The individual is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
* The individual must regularly climb a ladder or stairs.
The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Lifeguard job.
* While performing this job, the noise level in the work environment is loud.
* Working at heights greater than 4 ft.
* While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; frequently exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), occasionally exposed to extreme cold (non-weather).
* Exposure to pool chemicals at the required level.
* While performing this job, coming in contact with human/non-human bodily fluids will occur daily. Ex: feces, vomit, blood, etc
