LOCATION: Salford
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600‑£32,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

Applicants must supply a voice demonstration – a news bulletin you have written and read. The demo should be no longer than 3 minutes and must be submitted before the application deadline.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To support audio production and compile, read and produce radio news bulletins across BBC Local Radio stations in England and the Channel Islands. As a journalist and newsreader you will deliver local journalism to wider audiences and collaborate with the Central Team to innovate and create impact.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce and deliver timely, accurate, engaging news content for live or fast‑paced environments.
- Prepare and read news bulletins with a professional broadcast voice and editorial judgement.
- Live‑report breaking news or major events, remaining calm and accurate under pressure.
- Collaborate across multi‑platform teams to maximise reach.
- Apply knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines in team‑based production.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Experience as a journalist, delivering accurate news under tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to prepare and read news bulletins with a confident, professional voice.
- Experience live reporting of breaking news or major events.
- Strong multi‑platform experience and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding of BBC’s products such as BBC News Online and/or BBC Sounds.
- Experience working with national news and planning teams.
- Transferable strengths that enhance newsroom output.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The role requires a solid grasp of media law, BBC editorial guidelines, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a clear sense of the audience and news agenda.
