Job Purpose:
YMCA Basingstoke, located in the town centre, is a purpose-built housing facility supporting 83 residents aged 18-35 to live independently. As a key member of the Youth Engagement Team, this role involves working alongside the Community Manager to deliver evidence-based, youth-focused programmes to residents and the wider community.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* Develop, promote, and deliver engaging social activities and programmes for young people daily
* Support, mentor, coach, and 'walk alongside' individuals pursuing independence and community cohesion
* Undertake risk assessments and support planning interviews with new residents
* Develop community-minded support and activities involving the wider community
* Engage third parties to deliver support and activities to young people
* Act as an advocate for young people, engaging partner agencies and services as needed
* Encourage job search, training, and volunteering opportunities for young people not in education, employment, or training
* Facilitate booking and delivery of community-based programmes
* Assist with interviewing and selecting applicants for accommodation
* Undertake risk assessments and support planning with young people
* Work on a rota system, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays
Qualifications and Experience:
* Experience in programme delivery within youth, adult, or community services
* Ability and willingness to positively relate to young people, visitors, and staff
* Outgoing, friendly personality with strong communication skills to engage diverse groups
* Ability to respond effectively to high-risk behaviours from young people
* Good IT proficiency
* Knowledge of housing support services and processes
* Understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures
* Awareness of issues faced by young people
* Understanding of equality and diversity matters
