Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Designated Specialist Provision

Westfield Junior School is a welcoming and inclusive school with a strong community ethos. We are proud to host a Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) for pupils with communication and interaction needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We are seeking to appoint a committed and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our provision and help deliver high-quality support and education to our pupils.
Key Responsibilities:
•Design, implement, and lead a daily small-group nurture provision within the Designated Specialist Provision (DSP), ensuring it supports pupils’ social, emotional, and educational development in alignment with the school’s inclusive practices and SEND framework.
•Deliver tailored support to individual pupils and small groups within our DSP, under the guidance of the Class Teachers and SENCo.
•Plan and deliver structured interventions and learning activities, including leading sessions independently where required.
•Support the implementation and review of EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
•Foster a positive, nurturing environment that supports pupils’ social, emotional and academic development.
•Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure that each child’s needs are fully met.
•Promote inclusive practices and facilitate smooth transitions between the DSP and mainstream classes when appropriate.
The successful candidate will:
•Hold HLTA status or an equivalent relevant qualification.
•Have substantial experience working with children with communication and interaction difficulties, particularly those with ASD.
•Demonstrate a calm, flexible, and resilient approach to supporting behaviour and emotional regulation.
•Demonstrate a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and Key Stage 1 curriculum.
•Be an excellent communicator and team player.
•Be committed to inclusion, safeguarding, and the wellbeing of every child.
•Be enthusiastic about ongoing professional learning and development.
