Role Overview
This is a full‑time Consultant post for older adult community mental health services that has become available after the move of the previous post holder. The doctor is required to be on the specialist register for Old age or any subspecialty of the mental health. The service is based at Harland Centre, Southend and the successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the assessment and management of dementia patients in community and for functional older adult 70+ in the catchment area. The post holder will be the Approved Clinician for patients detained under the Community treatment order.
Responsibilities
* Provide senior clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team and oversee the clinical management of patients through weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Conduct new assessments for complex cases personally and support other team members to assess other referrals through supervision.
* See patients in outpatient clinics primarily and through home visits occasionally, with an expected clinic schedule of approximately 3 new patients and 10‑12 follow‑up patients.
* Carry out complex diagnostic memory assessments and provide supervision to the nurses who conduct less complex assessments.
* Attend multi‑professional meetings and carry out Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act assessments for patients when appropriate.
* Support nurses in care coordinating people with complex problems and promote active case‑load management.
* Provide clinical advice during the working day and support the duty system for complex cases, including supervision for the urgent review of patients.
* Cover for holidays and absences for colleagues with mutual consultation and agreement.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and membership of the Specialist Register for Older Adult Psychiatry, or within six months of obtaining CCT.
* Appropriate CCT or equivalent in psychiatric medicine.
* Experience in community mental health or dementia care is desirable.
