The post holder will monitor and maintain standards of care following the introduction of the Enhanced Recovery Programme (ERP) within the Surgical Directorate.
1. The post holder will exercise a level of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care demonstrated through the Trusts competency framework.
2. S/he will provide specialist expertise and advice demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to ERP and management of the client group, specifically working closely with the Surgical Directorates multi-disciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and a seamless service.
3. S/he will monitor and improve standards of care through, supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership.
4. S/he will contribute to clinical governance within the service by undertaking audit and research as part of the MDT within the specialist field.
5. Act in accordance to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
6. Have a responsibility to ensure all information processed for patients and staff is kept confidential, accurate and in line with the data protection Act and Caldecott Policy.

Main duties of the job
The ERAS Specialist Nurse Practitioner plays a key role in implementing and maintaining the Enhanced Recovery Programme (ERP) within the Surgical Directorate. Working autonomously across clinical teams, the post holder ensures patients are optimally prepared pre-admission, monitors post-operative recovery, and identifies deviations from expected care pathways. They collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues, improve discharge planning, and enhance patient outcomes. The role involves continuous review of patient and staff experiences, leading audits, and contributing to clinical governance. The nurse educates staff on ERAS principles, supports professional development, and represents the Trust at regional and national events. Responsibilities also include promoting equality, safeguarding vulnerable individuals, adhering to infection control and data protection policies, and ensuring compliance with Trust protocols. The post holder is expected to be a proactive leader, strategic thinker, and advocate for patient-centred care.
