Consultant Psychiatrist in Access and Wellbeing Service

NorthYorkshire and York stretches from Richmond and Whitby in the North to Selby inthe South. It is a diverse geographical landscape. Itis estimated that the total population in York is 208079 (2019) and Selby 85400 (2014). There is a notable aged population in York along with familiesof different nuclear status. Therefore, the needs of the population in terms ofmental health are diverse.

A vacancy has arisen due to previous post holderleaving the post. It is community-based post.

The Access to Mental Wellbeing Service is agateway into secondary mental health services covering the York & Selbyarea reaching as far afield as Pocklington in the East, Easingwold in the North.The service receives referral from Primary Care, Social Care, Police, andinternal teams such as Psychiatry Liaison and Crisis Teams. The serviceoffers a Brief Intervention pathway for a range of common mental healthdifficulties to reduce the requirement for secondary care intervention.The service works closely with NHS Talking Therapies and First Contact MentalHealth Workers based in GP Practices.

The team ismulti-disciplinary, working with people aged 18-65 years within the Yorkand Selby location. It utilises the expertise of doctors, nurses, occupationaltherapists, psychologists, social workers, and support workers. The post also accommodates a core or GP trainee and aHigher trainee post.


Main duties of the job

Clinical duties of post holder

Takepart in assessments, follow-up and joint working of patients to provideclinicalleadershipto the multidisciplinary team.

Provideinput to multidisciplinary discussions of assessments and management plans

Workjointly with colleagues from other disciplines and all relevant agencies toprovide

acomprehensive approach to patient care and treatment.

Theappointee must be approved under Section 12(2) MHA 1983.

Tocontribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision of junior doctors.

Theappointee must be able to travel independently.

TEWV,using our Quality Improvement System, has introduced Purposeful and ProductiveCommunity Services (PPCS). This aims to organise community teams to ensure weare consistently delivering high quality, evidence-based interventions, andclinicians feel supported and empowered to do the best possible job. We want toreduce the amount of time staff spend in front of screens and doing paperworkand release more time to be with patients. Part of PPCS is creating smaller,well led clinical units (cells), and giving every cell member the skills todeliver evidence based biopsychosocial treatments.

Thereis also a weekly leadership cell meeting, a weekly MDT/formulation meeting anda monthly clinical governance meeting.

The Medical Directorate and MedicalDevelopment Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitment andretention in a variety of ways and the cornerstone of these efforts is The TEWVCharter for the Medical Workforce. Leadership

Knowledge of structure and management of the NHS and the Trust. Shows commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology OR able to achieve within one year of appointment Able to adapt to and lead service change.
* Able to take on a leadership role outside the multidisciplinary team. Understanding of NHS & wider health economy and its implications for the work of the Trust. Trained to standard equivalent to level 2 in TEWV Trust Quality improvement system


Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning

* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training Participated in continuous professional development Participated in research or service evaluation. Able to use and appraise clinical evidence. Has actively participated in clinical audit.
* Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation. Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications. Has led clinical audits leading to service change


Qualifications

* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
* Approved Clinician Status and Section 12 Status OR be able to achieve within 3 months.


Clinical Knowledge & Skills

* Excellent knowledge in specialty Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
