Job Description
You will join the Marine team in Operations Catchment Services to apply technical expertise in marine environments, modelling and data analysis to support evidence‑based decisions. We assess the impact of discharges on water quality across key areas, including Nuclear New Build, major infrastructure projects, and the Water Industry National Environment Programme. You will also model bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries.
Responsibilities
* Review reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Use data to inform water quality models.
* Apply sound records management principles.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work and, when necessary, escalate challenges.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use your initiative to contribute to the work of the team and the wider organisation.
* Take part in incident response and incident‑management duties, with full training and support (additional payment and flexible arrangements may apply).
* Collaborate with customers to ensure they understand and trust our advice.
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience in data analysis; knowledge of modelling software is desirable.
* Technical competence in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, and specialist packages (e.g., Mike or Cormix).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues to non‑technical audiences.
* Experience reviewing complex reports and presenting key findings.
* Strong relationship‑building and teamwork skills within a dispersed virtual team.
* Ability to manage and organise records systematically.
* Comfortable with occasional national travel and participation in virtual collaboration.
* Proactive initiative and commitment to continuous professional development.
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; progress toward professional membership is expected.
Additional Information
We have two positions to backfill – one permanent and one fixed term for six months.
Applications are assessed “blind” using competency‑based questions. Interviews are held via MS Teams within two weeks of the closing date. Eligible candidates may be placed on a reserve list for six months.
