Role Title: Data Engineer
Duration: 6 month contract
Location: Telford, hybrid 2 days onsite (If not local, expectation will be to attend once/twice a month.)
Rate: up to £552 p/d Umbrella inside IR35

Role purpose / summary
There are approximately 85,000 tax agents serving around 12 million taxpayers. Of these, an estimated 40,000 agents are currently unregistered. The Modernising, Mandating Tax Advisor Registration (MMTAR) initiative-formerly known as Improving Agent Registration (IAR)-aims to enhance our operational and technological processes for registering agents who act on behalf of clients.
Currently, agents must register separately for each digital service. This project seeks to streamline that experience by delivering a single, automated registration journey that enables agents to sign up across all tax regimes. This unified process will also incorporate risk assessment.The initial phase, targeted for delivery in April 2026, will cover:
1. Computerised Environment for Self-Assessment (CESA)
2. Company Tax (CoTAX)
3. Pay As You Earn (PAYE) for employer taxes.
4. This role will form part of a new scrum team within Minerva Platfrom to develop and deliver the Ingestion and Risking within the SAS Platform including IDP.
Key Requirements
5. Design, development, and deployment of data integration and transformation solutions using Pentaho, Denodo, Talend, and SAS.
6. Architect and implement scalable data pipelines and services that support business intelligence and analytics platforms.
7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and deliver robust data solutions.
8. Champion Agile and Scrum methodologies, ensuring timely delivery of sprints and continuous improvement.
9. Drive DevOps practices for CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment of data services.
10. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
11. Ensure data quality, governance, and security standards are upheld across all solutions.
12. Troubleshoot and resolve complex data issues and performance bottlenecks.
Key Skills:
13. SAS 9.4 (DI), SAS Viya 3.x (SAS Studio, VA, VI).
14. Platform LSF, Jira, Platform Support.
15. Strong expertise in ETL tools: Pentaho, Talend.
16. Experience with data virtualization using Denodo.
17. Proficiency in SAS for data analytics and reporting.
18. Oracle (good to have).
19. Solid understanding of Agile and Scrum frameworks.
20. Hands-on experience with DevOps tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Docker, Kubernetes).
21. Strong SQL and data modeling skills.
22. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities.
Key Qualifications:
23. Proven track record of data projects and teams.
24. Certifications in Agile/Scrum, DevOps, or relevant data technologies are a plus.
