We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for a senior advisor to support the regulation of the energy sectors. Your experience should include work or regulation in combustion plants, waste incineration, refineries, and other energy‑related processes.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert technical leadership, including advice, guidance and training to internal and external stakeholders.
 * Develop strategy and tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes for the energy sectors.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where required.
 * Work with stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations, and internal operations teams.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support when required.
Team Overview
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate. We provide strategic direction, regulatory tools, guidance and training, and promote environmental best practice.
Qualifications & Experience
 * Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and to promote diversity issues.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of energy‑sector processes, including control measures for emissions to air.
 * Strong relationship‑building skills with regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Co‑operative teamwork skills and a proven track record of delivering common goals.
Additional Information
 * Qualifications will be assessed from competency questions; feedback is generally not available at the application stage.
 * This vacancy closes at the end of October.
 * Interviews will be held in person in Birmingham by the end of November.
 * Some travel will be required.
