The role
As a Trainee Duty Manager, you’ll be at the heart of operations within the Devonport Dockyard. This pivotal role ensures the smooth running of day-to-day activities and leads responses to abnormal events, safeguarding critical submarine support operations. You’ll gain unparalleled experience in defence and engineering, contributing to national security while advancing your career in a dynamic, high-impact environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll train to manage the day to day Authorised Site and Cross Site Submarine support activities as well as supporting the Authorised Site Facility Operator and Nuclear Site Plant Manager in support operations and maintenance as required.
1. Act as Forward Support Commander during emergency situations under the Devonport Site Emergency Plan
2. Lead initial response to abnormal events or operations on site
3. Investigate health, safety and technical issues promptly
4. Manage coordination between Babcock Marine operations and the Naval Base
5. Communicate incidents and updates to senior leadership
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. You’ll work a rotating shift pattern covering days, backs, and nights. Once fully qualified, you’ll receive RA – a 40% allowance – for night shifts.
Essential experience of the Trainee Duty Manager
6. Site and facilities operations background
7. Previous leadership experience
8. Dockyard experience (advantageous)
9. Experience in submarine/naval operations or pressurised water reactor systems would be beneficial
Qualifications for the Trainee Duty Manager
10. Level 4 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
