HR Helpline Assistant – Join Our People & Culture Team
Are you passionate about delivering exceptional service and supporting people? We’re looking for an enthusiastic HR Helpline Assistant to join our HR Support Services Team, providing high-quality advice and support to Devon County Council and its customers.
What’s at the heart of this role?
Outstanding customer service. You’ll need excellent communication skills, a proactive approach, and experience in a customer-facing environment. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively are essential to ensure accurate advice and timely progress on all activities.
Previous experience in HR or systems support is desirable—but not essential. If you’re eager to learn and grow, we’ll support you every step of the way.
What will you be doing?
1. Delivering clear, policy-based HR advice to Devon County Council and its customers, including support with HR system queries.
2. Promoting self-service tools and resources such as SharePoint and intranet sites.
3. Maintaining accurate, confidential records in line with data protection requirements.
4. Completing regular administrative tasks to support People & Culture systems.
5. Collaborating with teams across People & Culture to resolve complex queries and meet deadlines and KPIs.
6. Assisting with the development and delivery of training materials to help employees navigate HR policies and self-service systems.
7. Supporting the implementation of new or updated HR initiatives.
You’ll work closely with the Helpline Manager and colleagues across People & Culture to help achieve business objectives and deliver our People Strategy—all while fostering a strong, customer-focused environment.
What’s in it for you?
Working for Devon County Council comes with a fantastic benefits package, including:
8. Incremental pay increases within your grade.
9. 26 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), increasing with service.
10. Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
11. Employee Assistance Programme – confidential support available 24/7.
12. Flexible working options, including home-working (subject to role requirements).
13. Discounts from local and high-street retailers through the Devon Discounts scheme.
Is this the role for you?
If you have:
14. Previous HR or systems support experience (or a willingness to learn),
15. Excellent communication skills,
16. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines,
17. A desire to be part of a welcoming, diverse, and supportive culture where learning and progression are encouraged…
…then this is a fantastic opportunity to join us!
