Your NewpanyHays Education is working in partnership with a specialist school in Stockport, Greater Manchester, that supports secondary-aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a therapeutic and structured environment where students are supported to ovee barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.Your New RoleWe are recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work with students aged 11–16 who present with a range of SEMH needs, including anxiety, trauma, attachment difficulties, and challenging behaviour. This is a full-time, term-time-only role, offered on a temporary basis initially, with the potential to be permanent for the right candidate. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide consistent, trauma-informed support that helps students regulate their emotions, engage with learning, and build positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
2. Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies
3. Building trusting relationships with students to promote engagement
4. Assisting with the delivery of personalised learning and behaviour plans
5. Creating a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
What You'll Need to Succeed
6. Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, trauma, or behavioural needs
7. A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to challenging situations
8. Strongmunication and de-escalation skills
9. Amitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
10. A relevant qualification such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or equivalent experience (desirable but not essential)
