Senior Risk Intelligence Officer – Surrey Fire and Rescue Service
As a Senior Risk Intelligence Officer you will directly report to the Business Intelligence Manager as part of the Data Insight Team. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities include supervising a small team in gathering, evaluating and processing critical risk information related to life safety; generating geographical visualisations from digital data such as building plans and hazard maps; managing and updating risk information; and maintaining data sharing and GIS platforms. You will present processed intelligence about high‑risk premises, specific locations and vulnerable individuals across Surrey in accessible formats for operational firefighters during emergency incidents, enhancing situational awareness in challenging and time‑sensitive circumstances. You will also provide line management, maintain standards, support performance and development, uphold a professional environment under the Core Code of Ethics, and ensure organisational adaptability as local government re‑organisation and support services evolve.
Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise the team, planning workloads and ensuring high‑quality delivery.
* Generate geographic visualisations and maintain GIS platforms for risk intelligence.
* Present actionable intelligence to operational firefighters and stakeholders.
* Support line management: performance management, development and workplace culture.
* Ensure data accuracy, quality assurance and continuous improvement of systems.
* Adapt processes to technological changes and sector shifts, including IT infrastructure.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Team Management – plan workloads, lead projects, manage performance and development of team members.
* Technical Adaptability & Data Management – adapt quickly to technical changes, develop new data management processes, and demonstrate experience with enterprise information systems, GIS and CAD.
* Communication & Stakeholder Engagement – proven written and oral communication skills, strong negotiation and influencing abilities, and the capacity to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Service Delivery & Quality Assurance – maintain and improve systems, processes and procedures to maximise service quality, efficiency and compliance; ensure data accuracy and quality assurance.
* Problem Solving & Innovation – deliver change and transformation through analysis, innovation and solution‑focused problem solving. Provide actionable recommendations to support decision‑making and service improvement.

Starting salary: £41,585 per annum based on working 36 hours per week. The team is based in Woodhatch Place, Reigate, with flexible working arrangements – split between working from home and the office (minimum 2 days per week).
