Safety Engineer
3 months Contract (Possibility for an extension)
SC Cleared (A must to start)
We are looking for an experienced Safety SME to support safety assurance activities across tender evaluations and pre-contract trials for communication and Electronic Warfare (EW) systems. The role includes developing tailored Safety Cases, advising on safety governance, and reviewing supplier responses.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop DE&S-aligned Safety Case artefacts, including Hazard Logs, Hazard Analyses, and Safety Case Reports.
* Apply Defence Standards (e.g., DefStan 00-056) and best practice safety processes.
* Tailor safety governance to meet programme needs and trial conditions.
* Assess and communicate system safety risks for communication and EW systems.
* Define Safety-related supplier questions for Tender 2.
* Review and moderate Safety-related responses from up to four suppliers.
* Produce tailored Safety Cases for:
* Field Trials (requiring approval from DE&S Chief Engineer, DSTL Safety Officer, Army Duty Holders, and SPTA Safety Officer)
* Lab Trials, with documentation scaled appropriately for pre-contract activity.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Safety Engineer / Safety SME within Defence (DE&S, MOD, or equivalent).
* Strong understanding of Defence Standards and MOD safety processes.
* Ability to produce and maintain key safety artefacts (Hazard Logs, Safety Analyses, Safety Cases).
* Knowledge of system safety risks for communication and EW systems.
* Experience supporting safety aspects of tenders or supplier evaluations.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Security Clearance
An active UK Security Clearance (SC or higher) is essential for this role.
