An Oxfordshire-based council is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer to support their Development Management team in handling a diverse caseload of complex minor applications and small to mid-scale major developments.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned planner to contribute to a dynamic and forward-thinking authority during a critical period of growth and transition.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a varied caseload of planning applications, including complex minors and smaller-scale majors
Provide expert advice on both urban and rural development proposals
Apply a strong working knowledge of Green Belt Policy to relevant applications
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes
Support the council’s efforts in bridging the gap during their permanent recruitment campaign
Ideal Candidate:
Proven experience in Development Management within a UK local authority
Comfortable working across both urban and rural contexts
Strong understanding of current planning legislation, particularly Green Belt Policy
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Available to attend the office in Oxfordshire once every 1–2 weeks
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with flexibility to work remotely most of the time.
The initial contract is for 6 months, but there is scope for extension depending on the success of the council’s ongoing recruitment efforts.
