Job summary
The Long-Term Conditions pathway, part of the Children's Care Group within RDaSH, is seeking to recruit a Special School Nurse (Band 5). Our ideal candidate will be a registered nurse with a passion for working with children and young people with complex health needs.
This is a full time position fixed for 12 months covering maternity leave. However there is potential for permanent positions to become available within the long-term conditions pathway.
We are seeking to recruit a registered nurse who is passionate about the ongoing health of children/young people with complex health needs. This job role provides a high level of job satisfaction and continuity of care for children/young people accessing specialist educational settings.
The service provides nursing care, support and advice to children, young people and families who attend a Special Schools in Doncaster. All services are provided within a variety of community settings to deliver the Public Health Agenda in Special Schools.
Main duties of the job
The Special School Nurse role is integral to effective multidisciplinary partnerships with education and the local authority. The role includes writing reports, attending reviews, implementing evidenced based care plans, health promotion, health screening, delivery of training and workshops, face to face support, training and assessing of clinical skills, advocating for the students and liaising with families, professionals and Local Authorities.
The role also involves delivering health interventions to children with complex and profound physical, intellectual and emotional needs. The successful candidate will be confident in offering emergency care and advice to school staff as well as clinically competent in skills such as enteral feeding and oral suction, (training can be provided).
The successful candidate will join a highly experienced team within the Children's Care Group and will be an effective team member who is committed to providing high quality care.

The current hours of operation are Mon- Fri between the hours of 8am - 5pm.

1. NMC Registered Children's Nurse or NMC registered Nurse- Learning Disability or Adult with relevant experience
2. Evidence of continuing professional development

3. Teaching qualification ENB 998 or equivalent / Mentorship Status

4. Demonstrates an understanding of the role of the special school nurse
5. Basic IT Skills - Use of Microsoft Office
6. Ability to delegate duties and prioritise workload

7. Demonstrates a knowledge of the Wider Public Health issues for Children, Young People and Families and how health promotion influences these.
