Company Overview We are working in partnership with a proactive local authority in South England, committed to improving housing standards and ensuring safe, healthy living conditions for residents. The Private Sector Housing team is seeking an experienced officer to join them on an interim basis to support enforcement and inspection work. Role Overview As a Private Sector Housing Officer, you will be responsible for inspecting residential properties, enforcing housing legislation, and working with landlords and tenants to resolve housing issues. You’ll play a key role in maintaining housing standards and protecting vulnerable residents. Key Responsibilities * Carry out inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) * Investigate complaints and assess housing conditions in the private rented sector * Prepare enforcement notices and legal documentation * Liaise with landlords, tenants, and external agencies to resolve housing issues * Support the delivery of housing improvement initiatives and licensing schemes * Maintain accurate records and case files * Provide expert advice on housing legislation and standards * Attend court or tribunals as required to support enforcement action Requirements Essential * Proven experience in private sector housing enforcement within a local authority * Strong working knowledge of HHSRS and relevant housing legislation * Excellent communication and negotiation skills * Ability to manage a varied caseload independently * Experience preparing enforcement notices and legal reports Desirable * HHSRS certification or relevant housing qualification * Experience with selective or additional licensing schemes * Familiarity with housing software systems (e.g. Civica, M3, Uniform) Additional Information * Rate: £35 per hour (via umbrella company or limited company) * Duration: 6 months * Location: South England – hybrid working options available * Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) * Start Date: ASAP
