About Us Established in 1850 as wire workers and steel fabricators, Albion is a family-run engineering company, based in Hethel, that provides a large range of products in two specialist areas of manufacture to clients around the world. Job Purpose The Works Manager will be responsible to the directors for overseeing all aspects of production and shop-floor operations. This includes production planning, quality control, health & safety, maintenance, cost control, and team leadership. The role ensures that orders are fulfilled on time, to specification, and within budget while maintaining high safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Product Management · Assist with planning, scheduling, and monitoring production activities to meet customer deadlines and maintain optimal workflow. · Ensure all products are manufactured to technical drawings/specifications and comply with relevant quality standards. · Manage raw material usage and minimise waste. · Liaise with sales, design, and procurement teams to coordinate order fulfilment. People Management · Supervise and motivate all shop-floor staff. · In conjunction with directors, organise staff rotas, allocate tasks, ensure adequate training and skill development. · Conduct performance reviews and address any issues promptly. Quality & Safety · Oversee inspection processes and maintain quality control procedures. · Ensure compliance with ISO/BS standards (or other applicable standards). · Implement and enforce safe working practices in accordance with HSE legislation. Maintenance & Continuous Improvement · Oversee routine maintenance of machinery, tools and equipment. · Work with factory staff to minimise downtime. · Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality. Reporting & Administration · Assist with maintaining accurate production records and documentation. · Support budgeting and cost control by tracking resource usage and overtime. Skills & Experience Essential · Computer Literacy – Word, Outlook, Excel, Microsoft office. · Proven experience in a production or works management role within a manufacturing environment (preferably metals or engineering). · Knowledge of fabrication, and assembly processes. · Strong leadership and team management skills. · Understanding of quality control systems and health & safety legislation. · Good organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure. Desirable · Experience with lean manufacturing principles. · Familiarity with press tools, or similar equipment. · Engineering or manufacturing qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent preferred).
