An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team of Senior Officers in Education and Families. As part of our integrated approach to promoting the best outcomes for children and young people, Senior Officers play a key role in policy and practice development as well as quality assurance.
This Senior Officer post is a new and exciting opportunity, funded through the Scottish Government Fairer Futures Partnership, to take a lead, working in collaboration with partners, to scope the needs of families of children with additional support needs as part of our strategic aims to improve to get the right support at the right time for families and tackle financial exclusion and inequality.
The role will involve, amongst other activities:
* A range of scoping, engagement and evaluation activities to identify how well current service and linked actions are reaching and delivering benefit to families of children and young people with disabilities/additional support needs, with a particular focus on those activities which address poverty, health and educational inequalities.
* Engaging directly with families, third sector partners and other lead officers using effective relationships, to develop understanding, pathways and ways of working.
* Evaluation of relevant data to identify gaps and inform service development.
* The role will report to the Whole Family Wellbeing Lead and support the provision of information, assessments and recommendations to the Children’s Services Planning Partnership, the Tackling Poverty Officer Action Group and the council’s Resilient People Programme of Work.
* Oversee a project plan for which the officer will have responsibility, alongside the Whole Family Support and Wellbeing Lead.
* To progress specific ‘test of change’ activities and evaluate temporary funded initiatives within our current offer This will involve working with commissioned services, Tackling Poverty Team and other partners.
* The post holder will lead on the development, implementation, and on-going evaluation of the Fairer Futures pathfinder work which focusses on prevention, early intervention and long-term sustainability.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has knowledge of current national and local developments in relation to participation and engagement and a good knowledge of additional support needs, neurodiversity and the impact of poverty on families. You will be a strategic thinker and have the ability to engage with stakeholders, and an understanding of performance and improvement. You should have significant post qualifying experience in a relevant discipline. You should also have a track record of successful interagency working, strong leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
You must have a CQSW/DipSW, BA (Hons) in Social Work or equivalent and be registered or eligible for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to commencing in this role.
