He is the heart of a lively family home and family time (Parents and siblings), is very important, along with cheering on Leeds United! Charlie has complex medical needs and as a result is totally depending on others to meet all of his health, care and medical needs, on a 24/7 basis. He is diagnosed with dyskinetic cerebral palsy, progressive dystonia, an involuntary movement disorder, developmental delay, and a visual and hearing impairment. He is a wheelchair user, requires oral suctioning, daily chest physio, and oxygen administration. He communicates primarily through Eye Gaze technology, switching to simpler "yes/no" signing when required and enjoys a blended liquid diet via his PEG, transitioning to a J-tube in the coming weeks, all his nutrition, fluid and medication is administered via his tube. Charlie experiences frequent, painful, prolonged and debilitating dystonic episodes, impacting every aspect of day-to-day life Despite the complexity of his needs, Charlie’s personality shines through—he’s full of life, humour, and banter. Overview of role: Charlie’s care is provided on a 2:1 basis, either alongside a team member or Mum. A typical morning starts with chest physio, stretching, personal care, dressing, breakfast and ready for school transport. Afterschool, weekends and school holidays there is much more scope and time to plan fun activities. Due to Charlie’s dystonia, there are hours / days when the role is focused on managing his pain and comfort levels and supporting his recovery. On good days, it is vital that Charlie’s time is activity filled, ensuring he enjoys life to fullest, supporting community outings, activities, and adventures that reflect his vibrant personality. Charlie’s PA / SEN Support Worker will advocate and continually promote his independence. This is a hands-on, dynamic role requiring a PA / SEN Support Worker that can adapt, think outside the box and be creative. Who this job would suit: This role would suit a fun, confident, bubbly, and engaging SEN professional. You may be a Teaching Assistant seeking additional hours, or an experienced complex carer looking for a new challenge – Charlie’s team is moving to 2-1 round the clock support, therefore, there is a lot of flexibility for the right person. You must be resilient, compassionate, and highly preferable that you support Leeds United, we might still consider a Manchester United supporter, if you have the right experience! What’s great about this job: Charlie is a star; he can wrap anyone around his little finger and members of his team always provide positive feedback. You’ll be part of a close-knit, professional and supportive care team. There is excellent person-centered training, a full induction and ongoing supervision. Who is recruiting for this role?
