Vulnerable children in the UK need your help

Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.

Last year, we helped more than 687,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Why Action for Children?

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

A bit about the role

Our Residential Support Workers play a vital role throughout the night, creating a safe and supportive environment where our children and young people can rest and feel secure.

During the night, you will provide care, reassurance, and guidance, ensuring their well‑being is always prioritised through personalised support and advocacy. Your presence helps maintain stability, promotes healthy routines, and supports each young person to reach their full potential.

Working through the night is about more than supervision—it's about being a calm, consistent role model. You will carry out regular welfare checks, respond to individual needs, support with personal care when required, manage home safety and security, complete accurate records, and help prepare for the day ahead so the children can wake to a positive, nurturing environment.

About the service

Acorn Way is one of Action For Children's newest homes, with space for up to four children and currently home to two, Acorn Way offers a calm and nurturing setting where every young person receives genuine care and consistent support. Our focus is on helping children enjoy the best possible quality of life, surrounded by adults who believe in them and celebrate every step of their journey.

* Experience and training in safeguarding
* An innovative and creative approach to problem solving
* Experience of developing tailored care plans

* Assisting with household tasks like cooking and cleaning
