The Oander business can be summarised into three distinct work streams:
* Contractor and House Builder Support – providing support and expertise to; main contractors, specialist trade contractors and self-delivering house builders. With the service offering providing both pre and post contract services, including BoQ production, material scheduling, change control or seconded personnel. This work stream encompasses the full spectrum of estimating and quantity surveying.
* Consultancy Services – providing traditional quantity surveying, project management and multi-disciplinary services across multiple sectors, with a large focus on the healthcare sector, other public sector bodies and cladding projects. This includes other complementary disciplines such as Principal Designer (CDM), Clerk of Works services and Party Wall Surveys.
* Contract Advisory and Dispute Resolution – providing contractual advice, support, and guidance to those involved within the construction industry, including dispute resolution, risk management and general advisory services.
About the Role
Due to continued company growth, Oander are looking to appoint a ‘hands-on’ Commercial and Quantity Surveying lead.
Reporting into the Managing Director / Operations Director you will join our team of professionals to manage but also deliver quantity surveying and pre-construction commissions.
The role will vary across the variety of business sectors and examples of these assignments include:
* Cost Management – supporting Project Managers on our healthcare and Local Authority major projects, assisting with general commercial matters, such as drafting contracts, reviewing applications for payment and drafting payment certificates along with assessing variations/ change.
* Tier 1 Contract Estimating Support – appointments by a tier 1 contractor; producing BoQs, collating trade sub-contract packages, issuing enquiries followed by reviewing the various subcontract quotes, followed by compiling the comparisons to formulate the net tender costs.
* Development Cost Plan – working with private developers, undertaking the measurement and production of cost plans. Works include reviewing and challenging potential value engineering, producing pricing schedules and quantities for costing along with development of procurement strategies.
* Residential Housing Development – appointments as Lead Consultant, work includes drafting contracts, contract administration, undertaking valuations and payment certificates. Undertaking monthly cost reporting and forecasts for developers to support final account settlements.
* Healthcare Viability – working with the design team, reviewing proposed schemes and providing detailed cost plans and cost advice including value engineering options.
* Estimating Rate Build Up – working with self-delivering contractors with a directly employed work force, undertaking measurement and production of rates utilising the first principles approach, building up labour, plant, material based upon forecast outputs.
* Works Schedules – supporting our Project Managers in producing works schedules for healthcare backlog maintenance schemes, ensuring they are suitability detailed to obtain comprehensive costings from principal contractors.
Person Specification
Oander are looking for a dynamic and driven individual with a proven track record of managing and delivering the commercial and quantity surveying aspects of construction.
The role will require the person to take lead in managing assignments and resource but also being ‘hands on’ operationally.
This will be a key role within the company, the individual will be a senior member of our growing business and be actively involved in company growth / development, marketing and management of the wider company finances.
The successful applicant will be comfortable managing multiple assignments with competing priorities and tight deadlines and be able to thrive operating in a fast moving, agile, and entrepreneurial business. Characteristics should include being energetic, engaging, and positive, with a high EQ, and possess strong influencing skills required to lead and deliver projects.
Applicants must be prepared to work primarily from our head office in Copthorne, Surrey, have their own means of transport and suitable driving licence.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have the follow minimum qualifications.
* Minimum 15 years of relevant working experience in the discipline / 5 to 10 years’ experience as an Associate Director or Director.
* A strong background in the delivery of consultancy services to the sectors serviced by Oander.
* Experience of leading cost management commissions for small, medium, large, sized construction projects of medium to high complexity.
* Good knowledge of construction industry technical matters, such as different procurement routes, value management and value engineering.
* People management experience, particularly in the context of managing a cost management team delivering a project.
