Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Technician (Electrical) – Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Duncan Macmillan House, Porchester, Nottingham.
Job Summary
Two full‑time vacancies (also open to part‑time) within the Estates Department. The role involves providing technical support for reactive and planned electrical maintenance across 54 Trust buildings. The technician will operate mobile and be assigned work via the Facilities Helpdesk.
Main Duties
Organise daily workload, prioritise tasks, carry out maintenance requests efficiently, support a customer‑focused estate maintenance service, adapt to new situations, and collaborate with colleagues. Participate in the out‑of‑hours on‑call rota and may receive a retainer payment (~£3,000 per annum) plus overtime.
Job Responsibilities
* Attend electrical‑to‑mechanical conversion training to work across both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
* Perform routine electrical maintenance and fitments in various settings.
* Use mobile handheld devices to receive and log tasks.
* Participate in the out‑of‑hours on‑call rota, covering all properties.
* Risk‑assess job sites and conduct relevant assessments.
* Follow Health and Safety requirements and approved codes of practice.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications:
* Completed craft apprenticeship or recognised training with significant experience.
* City and Guilds or equivalent advanced craft certificate in an appropriate discipline.
* 18th Edition BS7671.
* Health and Safety Certificate.
Desirable Qualifications:
* ONC/HNC Engineering.
* Management Qualification.
* Advanced Health and Safety Certificate.
* City and Guilds Electrical Test and Inspection, including Pat Testing.
Essential Training:
* Legionella Awareness.
* Asbestos Awareness.
* Risk Assessments.
* LV Authorised Person training.
Desirable Training:
* First Aid.
Essential Skills:
* IT skills.
* Good written and verbal communication at all levels.
* Adaptable to change.
* Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Use of mobile devices for estates maintenance.
Desirable Skills:
* Knowledge of other building and engineering trades.
Physical Requirements:
* Capable of climbing ladders and scaffolding, working at heights and in confined spaces.
* Manual handling tasks.
Experience:
* Maintenance of building services and electrical plant/equipment servicing and repairs.
* Desirable: multi‑skilling across all estate disciplines.
Knowledge:
* In‑depth knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act.
* Knowledge of approved codes of practice and current regulations related to discipline.
* Desirable: NHS Estate and other discipline technical memoranda.
Contractual Requirements:
* Full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use, with reasonable adjustments for disabled individuals.
* Participation in out‑of‑hours on‑call rota.
* Access to personal vehicle for travel between Trust sites if required.
Additional Information
Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced) which will be deducted from salary over the first two months. A DBS Update Service is also recommended (annual fee £16).
Learning to meet the minimum required salary for a Skilled Worker visa is not possible for this post; therefore, the Trust cannot sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.
Salary & Contract
Band 4; £28,392 to £31,157 per annum (pro‑rated for part‑time). Permanent contract. Work pattern: full‑time or part‑time.
