About the Role
We are recruiting an experienced Separation Plant Operator (Mud Tech / Mud Man) to work on major shaft sinking and tunnelling projects across the North West UK. This is a long-term opportunity on a high-profile infrastructure project, supporting critical slurry and separation operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain the separation plant for slurry/tunnelling operations
* Monitor and control slurry systems, including density, viscosity, and flow rates
* Ensure efficient removal and processing of spoil from tunnelling activities
* Conduct routine checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant equipment
* Work closely with tunnelling teams, engineers, and supervisors to optimise performance
* Maintain accurate records of plant performance and material outputs
* Ensure compliance with environmental and site safety regulations
* Support safe working practices in confined and safety‑critical environments
Essential Requirements
* Proven experience as a Mud Tech / Mud Man or Separation Plant Operator
* Experience working on shaft sinking and/or tunnelling projects
* Strong understanding of slurry systems and separation plant operations
* Confined Spaces certification (Medium/High Risk) – essential
* Valid medical certificate (safety‑critical) – essential
* Good problem‑solving skills and ability to respond to plant issues quickly
* Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends if required
Desirable
* Mechanical or process plant background
* CSCS card
* First Aid certification
* Experience on large-scale civil engineering or tunnelling projects
