Role Overview

Working within the Cargo and Vehicle Inspection (CVI) section of Rapiscan Systems Engineering team. As part of our team, you will be involved in projects at all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial concept generation, new product introduction and continuous improvement in manufacture, service and aftersales.

You will be expected to produce user-friendly system operator documents, service and warranty documents and technical reference documents. As a technical author, you will be responsible for writing specialist information about products and services, and how they work. You will need to explain how things are used in a way that is easy to understand. The information may be presented in the form of user guides for software applications, reference and instruction manuals, training guides, instructional videos or online help incorporated into software and operating guides.

Key Responsibilities:

* Researching and information gathering to understand the CVI business and product applications.
* Communicating and collaborating information with Engineering Design, Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Service Engineers and other related subject matter experts.
* Writing, editing and presenting information in clear and concise English including coordinating and preparing illustrations and images, document indexing, cataloguing and copy-editing. Including:
* Service & Warranty documents.
* Work Plan and/or Build Process documents.
* Electrical Wiring and Mechanical Drawing packages.
* Course Training or Presentation material or documents.
* Ensuring that the written documentation is completed to advised and agreed deadlines to the satisfaction of the project owners.
* Presenting and/or delivering of written documentation through the appropriate internal publication and authorising process.
* Maintaining a document amendment process for the CVI division related to System Operator, Technical Reference and/or Maintenance, Training and Service Documentation.
* Managing a publication and document library within the CVI Division

Experience & Attributes:

* A clear and concise writing style
* The ability to absorb information quickly
* An analytical mind and an inquisitive nature
* A flair for turning technical subjects and jargon into easily understood text
* Understanding of the skills required to operate complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
* Demonstrated ability to operate independently and cross functionally with excellent organisation and time management skills.
* Punctuality and reliability.
* Prepared to take responsibility for self and others.
* Ability to give and take instruction.
* A background in a manufacturing would be beneficial.
* Must have a hands-on approach

Knowledge, Training and Qualifications:

* Ideally apprentice trained, in an electrical, mechanical and/or from a manufacturing background
* A HNC or higher in engineering is preferred although equivalent industrial experience will be considered.
* A good understanding of mechanical and electrical/electronic control systems, including diagnostic processes.
* Must be able to use Adobe FrameMaker, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro and Adobe InDesign.
* Must be able to use MS Office.
