Associate (Highways and Drainage Engineer)

What You’ll Do
* Design drainage and highway infrastructure for large strategic housing sites, primarily in Hampshire.
* Collaborate with project managers across the business to meet client expectations.
* Provide engineering solutions to complex problems and produce high‑quality technical reports.
* Support the delivery of projects through feasibility, detailed design, and construction phases.
* Engage with clients, local authorities, planning consultants, and utility providers.
What We’re Looking For
* Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related field with a focus on infrastructure or drainage.
* Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with ICE or CIHT.
* Minimum 10 years of experience on UK highway infrastructure projects.
* Strong client‑facing experience and capacity to manage communications throughout project life‑cycle.
* Experience working within multi‑disciplinary teams and coordinating with external stakeholders.
* Proficiency in UK design standards such as DMRB, MCHW, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, and technical submissions (Section 38, 278, 102/104 & S185).
* On‑site knowledge of monitoring or supervising highway works and compliance with design specifications.
* Financial acumen – budget tracking, invoicing and cost control.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites not accessible by public transport.
* Knowledge of CDM Regulations and health & safety procedures for infrastructure projects.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Additional Experience (Beneficial)
* Post‑chartered experience in consultancy or local authority environments.
* Experience with Hampshire County Council approval processes and drainage submissions.
* SuDS design experience and engagement with Local Flood Authorities.
* Understanding of NEC contract forms and contract administration.
* NEC Supervisor experience and site quality assurance.
* Software skills in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, and Microsoft Project.
* Preparation of procurement briefs and management of third‑party services.
* Mentoring junior staff and participation in technical development.
* Contribution to business development, fee proposals, and tender responses.
