Waste Operations Business Support Assistant - Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council - Antrim

Your role involves providing a comprehensive customer care and administrative service as part of the Business Support Team, including Waste Management, Fleet, Waste Operations, and Sustainability. You will deliver high-quality internal and external customer service, taking ownership of customer queries and following issues through to resolution. Demonstrating a team approach and full flexibility in tasks undertaken is essential.
About the role:
* £14.84 per hour
* Antrim Civic Centre (other locations may be required)
* Monday to Friday
* 37 hours per week
* Temporary - Up to 4 weeks pending review
What you will be doing:
* Act as the primary contact for waste enquiries and complaints from the public via the call hub, including:
o Answering queries, reporting issues, and processing payments
o Adding new customers to internal systems
o Assisting customers with bulky collection requests
* Provide face-to-face services at the main reception desk for Waste Services requests.
* Manage emails, Livechat, and social media requests from the public, commercial customers, Elected Members, Stakeholders, and external agencies such as NIHE, Linergy, Roads Service, DEARA.
* Coordinate effectively with contracted service providers to ensure smooth household bin collections and escalate issues to Line Managers as needed.
What you will need:
* Minimum 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C), including English Language and Maths, or equivalent. Consideration may be given to candidates with less formal qualification but with at least 4 years of relevant experience or clerical experience including minute-taking.
* At least 2 years of administrative or clerical experience, including minute-taking. Experience in customer service involving direct contact and handling complaints and queries.
* Good planning and organizational skills.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Effective organizational and time management skills.
* Ability to work independently and to a high standard.
* High discretion and confidentiality.
* Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
* A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle, or alternative transport to perform duties.
